IMPORTANT TO EXHIBITORS:

  1. Ages of all horses and foals will be reckoned from January 1st of the current year.
  2. Only Original Certificates of Registration will be accepted for horses entered in classes that are designated “registered”. Prize money won in these classes will not be paid until all Certificates of Registration are presented to the General Manager.
  3. Any driven entry must have another capable driver only with them. Under no circumstances are there to be other persons inside the ring while judging is taking place, except officials, judges and handlers.
  4. Under no circumstances - No riders in wagons other than the two capable drivers.
  5. All cart classes must have capable driver and handler inside ring
  6. Stall fees are $ 8.00 per day or $ 16.00 for the weekend in the barn. Line Horses will be allowed in the barn only if space is available on Saturday and Sunday. Only those stall reservations made through the General Manager submitting them with the entry forms will be honoured on a first come basis. Stall fees, Cheques can be post-dated until September 9th, 2018. First 22 Entries of 6 Horse Hitch will get stalls – at Directors Discretion.
  7. Ring numbers will be available from the Directors in the centre ring announcers booth in the Heavy Horse Ring.
  8. Exhibitors are required to forward proof of liability insurance for the current year for all animals being shown at fairs with the entry forms. Entries will not be processed until this information is received, and are subject to late entry fees.
  9. Separate entry forms are to be used for each exhibitor please.
  10. Manual Entries close on Friday, September 7th, 2018. ONLINE Entries will close Sunday, September 16th, 2018. Entries will not be taken over the phone.
  11. Entry fees are 15% of the prize money awarded. The penalty for late entry, made after September 16th until the day of the show, is an additional 5% of the prize money awarded.
  12. Due to time restriction – show proceeds rain or shine.
  13. It will be decided at show time if the show will proceed. Carp Agricultural Society will have the final say on the show.
  14. PROFESSIONAL SHOWMANSHIP IS REQUIRED AT ALL TIMES.
  15. All DUSTING must be done outside of buildings.
  16. Carp Fair strongly encourages the influenza vaccine for horses.
  17. No cross tying in the barns.
  18. Carp Fair reserves the right to request a veterinary health check of any animal on our grounds.

ATTENTION:

To be eligible for prize money, each breed must be shown separately and have at least:

  1. Three exhibitors per breed
  2. Twenty (20) animals per breed exhibited at Class A Fairs, of which Carp is one. If these requirements are not met by the individual breeds, only half of the prize money will be paid.

DEFINITIONS:

  1. For the purpose of the Classifications, an exhibit shall be interpreted as follows: All purebred registered animals, whether owned by one person or by more than one person (individually or jointly), are considered to be the production of the farm or breeding unit on which they are maintained.
  2. For the purpose of the Classifications, a breeding unit is defined as follows: In each classification where the same or common interests are involved in more than one breeding operation, such operations are considered as one breeding unit. In all cases where there is any doubt that more than one breeding unit exists, the interpretation shall be that only one breeding unit exists. The responsibility of proof of separation of breeding units shall rest with the exhibitor(s).
  3. A breeding unit may show two animals in any three classes and only one animal in the balance of the breeding classes up to 10 animals per breeding unit.
  4. All exhibits must be owned and registered in the name of the exhibitor. Note exception of the Get-of-Sire class.
  5. No animal may be shown in more than one class except for the Get-of-Sire, Progeny of Dam or Stallion and Three Mares classes.
  6. There shall be not more than one entry per exhibitor in the Get-of-Sire, Progeny of Dam or Stallion and Three Mares classes.
  7. No children under age of 10 on wagons or carts, with exception of junior classes.
  8. Stalls for Heavy Horse Hitches take precedence over Line Class Horses
  9. Stalls for Weekend Exhibitors – Saturday/Sunday will not be available until after Friday night at 7:00 pm. Line Class exhibitors, please vacate your stall by 6:00 pm.

PLAYING FIELD
Open to all draft breeds, all ages, all genders. The exhibit is subject to show approval. Clydesdale/ Shires will show and be judged as one breed with the exception of Olds Agricultural Society Fair and Calgary Stampede. At these two shows, the Clydesdale and Shire breeds will be judged separately.

POINT ALLOCATION SYSTEM

Breed Level: Championship classes per gender earn points.

Champion Stallion (Mares) (Geldings) – 3 points each gender. Reserve Champion Stallion (Mares) (Geldings) – 2 points each gender.

Supreme Level: These points are awarded from championship class winners. For example, 2 Stallions (champion and reserve), 2 Mares, (champion and reserve) and 2 Geldings (champion and reserve) are eligible for Supreme, Reserve Supreme and Honorable Mention for the breed. The Supreme moves on to the Ultimate level.

Showing a draft horse on the line, with the following areas to be considered: walk, trot, turn, watching judge, backup, presentation, suitability of showperson to horse, handling, appearance and proper dress, ability to handle and control horse and protective footwear. Exhibitors must be a member of the O.P.H.A. ($5.00 Junior membership fee is due by May 1st to be eligible to participate). Junior/Senior showing a Percheron horse in this class will receive points towards the Ontario Percheron Horse Association Showmanship Program. Exhibitors may show in as many shows as they wish but only the best 6 scores will count towards the year end points awards. NOTE: You may show any Percheron horse excluding stallions one year of age and up.

IMPORTANT TO EXHIBITORS:

  1. Ages of the riders will be determined as of January 1st of the current year.
  2. Under no circumstances will classes be delayed for exhibitors who are delayed by cross entries.
  3. All exhibitors are to be dressed in clean suitable attire. Hard hats to be worn in Hunter classes and Juniors must have chin strap done up at all times.
  4. Any person who interferes with or attempts to influence a Judge or Official while in the discharge of his or her duties, or who shall at any time, on the premises, use any contemptuous or abusive language to any Judge or Official within his or her hearing in consequence of any award made by him or her, or any exhibitor refusing to accept any award made by a Judge, shall forfeit his or her right to any premiums to which they might otherwise be entitled and may be prohibited from exhibiting for up to 5 years thereafter. Judges are particularly requested to report any offender in this direction.
  5. Exhibitors may be requested to show proof of a negative coggins test for the current year for all horses and ponies being shown.
  6. Ring numbers can be picked up at ringside before the show begins.
  7. Exhibitors must show proof of liability insurance for the current year for all animals being shown. This is to accompany the entry forms and the entry forms will not be processed until this is received. Exhibitors will be asked to show proof of insurance, OEF card or copy of policy, when picking up numbers. “NO PROOF AT RINGSIDE, NO SHOW”. Exhibitors will also be required to sign a waiver at this time. Exhibitors should be aware that their OEF membership insurance only insures the member. If someone other than the member rides or drives their horse in a class, the OEF insurance is not valid. If that occurs, other proof of insurance must be provided with the entry papers.
  8. Each exhibitor must use a separate entry form. Extra copies may be obtained from the office.
  9. Joint ownership is permitted in pair classes.
  10. The show committee reserves the right to withdraw any single class with less than three entries or any team class with less than two entries entered as of noon on the Thursday preceding the fair.
  11. All entries close on Friday, September 15TH at 4pm. However if extenuating circumstances apply, entries after that date but before show day may be accepted at the discretion of the director in charge but a $50.00 administration fee plus late entry fees will apply. Please note the rule for anyone arriving on show day not entered as listed under each division.
  12. All exhibitors must be members of the Society in order to exhibit.
  13. PARKING ON FAIR GROUNDS LIMITED TO TRAILERS AND TOWING VEHICLES. ALL OTHER VEHICLES MUST PARK IN THE PUBLIC PARKING AREAS. ALL EQUIPMENT MUST BE WITH THE ANIMALS AS THIS WILL BE THE ONLY VEHICLE ALLOWED ON THE GROUNDS. Please enter at Gate 23 located off Langstaff Drive
  14. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to familiarize themselves with both the Rules and Regulations of the Fair and the Rules for the Right Horse Division.
  15. Return of entry fees will only be considered by the Fair at the next Board meeting, if the show is cancelled or if the exhibitor presents a veterinarian or medical certificate.

RULES FOR THE MINIATURE HORSE SHOW

A miniature horse cannot be over 38 inches in height. If as a result of a complaint an animal is found to be over 38” in height, it is not a Miniature horse and will be excused from the Miniature Show. All prizes up to that point will be forfeited. Measurement will be taken from the base of the last hair on the mane to the measuring surface by a person acceptable to the show officials. The Directors reserve the right to “split” any class, which is considered too large, for reasons of safety and/or fair judging. Additional rules concerning judging will be made available to exhibitors on or before show day. Copies can be made available to exhibitors before show day upon request.

JUDGING INFORMATION

All “Cart” classes (except junior and under) and the Pair/Team classes are pleasure driving classes and are judged on the suitability of the horse to provide a pleasant drive. Two trots (working and strong) and a rein-back will be expected. Exaggerated high action in front to be faulted. Tandem, Unicorn, and four and six hitch walk, trot, rein-back, stand quiet in line. No fanning or figure of eight. Exhibitors who do not follow direction from announcer and or ring official will be faulted. Juniors 11 and under - class will be judged primarily on the ability of the exhibitor with some consideration given to the performance of the horse.

PRIZE MONEY: 1st $25.00 2nd $20.00 3rd $15.00 and $10.00 to all remaining unless otherwise stated. Ribbons to 3rd place plus reserve.

IMPORTANT TO EXHIBITORS

Proof of liability insurance must accompany each entry form for the animals being shown. Entries will not be processed until this is received and are subject to late entry fees. Entries close on Friday, September 7th, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. Entries will not be taken over the phone. The entry fee is 15% of the prize money awarded. Late entry fee is an additional 5% of the prize money awarded.

All exhibits must be weighed at the fair prior to showing. The birth weight, show weight and weight per day of age for all calves and yearlings to be exhibited in individual classes are to be posted. Cattle must not be removed before 4:00 p.m. the day of the show.

STALLS CANNOT BE RESERVED - FIRST COME - FIRST SERVED

Any Exhibitors using stalls overnight must have approval by director in charge

ATTENTION

  1. Each breed must be shown separately and have at least:
  2. Three exhibitors per breed
  3. Twenty-four (24) animals per breed exhibited at class “A” fairs, of which Carp is one. If these qualifications are not met by the individual breeds, only half of the prize money will be paid.
  4. All purebred registered animals, whether owned by one person or by more than one person (individually or jointly) are considered to be the production of the farm or breeding unit on which they are maintained.
  5. Each breeding unit is allowed a maximum of 10 exhibits excluding the Breeder’s Herd and Get-of- Sire classes. All exhibits must be owned by and registered in the name of the exhibitor. Note the exception of the Get-of-Sire and Breeder’s Herd classes.
  6. All animals being shown in single classes must be registered at the time of entries closing, except calves, which must be properly tattooed, in two year and mature cow/calf classes. All animals must be legibly tattooed.
  7. Market Heifers cannot be shown in purebred classes.

DEFINITIONS

  1. All purebred registered animals, whether owned by one person or by more than one person (individually or jointly) are considered to be the production of the farm or breeding unit on which they are maintained.
  2. In each classification where the same or common interest are involved in more than one breeding operation, such operations are considered as one breeding unit. In all cases where there is any doubt that more than one breeding unit exists, the interpretation should be that only one breeding unit exists. The responsibility of proof of separation of breeding units shall rest with the exhibitor(s).

  7. The following supports good animal husbandry practices at shows, while presenting a positive image to spectators. All exhibitors and their fitters, agents, or other representatives agree to abide by the following rules and regulations.

PART 1

  1. The following practices or procedures are unacceptable in the show ring or registered dairy cattle:
  2. Misrepresenting the age or ownership of an animal
  3. Filling an animal’s rumen unnaturally with liquid (tubing)
  4. Administering epidural anaesthesia (blocking tails) and/or applying any irritant either externally or internally to the perineal (rectum and vagina) area
  5. Inserting foreign material/articles under the skin, into the topline (including hair not attached to its own hair follicle) or on the feet (administration of acceptable medications, and false switches and tails is permitted)
  6. Performing surgery of any kind to change the natural contour of appearance of the animal’s body, hide or hair. Not included is the removal of warts, teats and horns, clipping and dressing of hair and trimming of hooves
  7. Criticizing or interfering with the judge, show management or other exhibitors, or other conduct detrimental to the breed or show
  8. Wrapping hocks or draining fluid from hocks unless authorized by a veterinarian at the show

PART 2

  1. All exhibitors and their fitters, agents or other representatives agree to abide by the Standard Procedures and Rules and Regulations for Showing Dairy Cattle and/or other show rules and regulations.

ATTENTION

  1. To be eligible for prize money, each breed must be shown separately and have at least:
  2. All exhibits must be owned by and registered in the name of the exhibitor. All animals must be tagged with an approved CCIA radio frequency identification tag. All exhibitors will be required to present registration certificates on demand by an official of the Show. Failure to comply with this request will disqualify entries or animals from being exhibited.
  3. All exhibits must be registered in the name of the exhibitor in accordance with the by-laws of the Association. The certificate of registration must state if the animal is purebred or at least 75% of purebred inheritance, registered and recorded on the records of the Association in the name of the exhibitor. No animals will be accepted without a registration certificate or facsimile copy of both sides of up-to-date registration certificate from the breed offices. There will be no exceptions and no animal will be allowed to show on a signed transfer or Photostat certificate of registry. Each animal will be checked for show eligibility against its registration certificate prior to showing.
  4. The calculation of Premier Exhibitor and Premier Breeder points per exhibitor and per breeder will be assessed on a maximum of ten (10) animals shown and earning points in the individual classes.
  5. Pee Wee Showmanship - Dairy Calf to be shown by a child ages 3-10 years. Show will start after 4H Dairy Show.

OBJECTIVES OF 4-H

  1. To supplement and encourage junior activities as organized in Ottawa Carleton.
  2. To improve the educational value of the Fairs.
  3. To encourage youth to become open class exhibitors.
  4. To stimulate the interest of youth in the Fair working as members representing 4-H program.

GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS

  1. Participation in the 4-H section is open to young men and women enrolled in the 4-H program in Ottawa Carleton who are between the ages of 9 and 21 years as of January 1, 2017 unless otherwise stated in the Prize List.
  2. 4-H Club members may exhibit in the open classes of fair by complying with the regulations of the fair.
  3. The 4-H Committee reserves the right to refuse any entry, which in their opinion, is not in the best interest of the 4-H. The 4-H Fair Committee reserves the right to call in a veterinarian for a professional opinion should the need arise.
  4. All participants in the 4-H section are expected to act and co-operate by showing good manners and behavior at all times. Persons not complying with this rule will be dealt with by the Committee.
  5. 4-H livestock exhibitors are encouraged to display a Canadian 4-H sign whenever possible above their entries the day on which they show their animals.
  6. 4-H livestock entries must comply with the health standards of the Fair and 4-H Livestock Health Policies.
  7. Exhibits and entries to be placed in the Exhibit Hall Building on Wednesday, September 20th, between 6:00 and 9:00 p.m. and picked up on Sunday, September 24th at 5:30 p.m. ALL 4-H MEMBERS EXHIBITING ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR PICKING UP THEIR OWN ENTRIES unless prior arrangements have been made with the club leaders.
  8. EXHIBITS ELIGIBLE FOR THE REGIONAL 4-H SHOW WILL BE IDENTIFIED BY THE JUDGE AT THE TIME OF JUDGING.
  9. 4-H Tie-Ups will be allowed into the barn starting at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening – in the past this has not always been possible and needs to be verified by the Carp Fair Committee Chairperson.

Ottawa-Carleton 4-H Association Fair Programs Committee: ALL 4-H Leaders of the Ottawa Carleton 4-H Association are responsible for the implementation and the successful completion of 4-H member projects within the 4-H program at Carp Fair

LOCAL ACHIEVEMENT DAYS

All 4-H members in the Ashton Community, Carp Community, Richmond Community & West Carleton Community, Carp Club, and Fallowfield Club taking a beef, dairy or horse project must participate in an Achievement Program approved by the Carleton 4-H Association in order to receive credit for their 4-H Project.

Creditable entries are eligible for the Carleton 4-H Championship Show, Metcalfe Fair, and Friday, September 29th, 2017. Members will be notified by their leader of eligibility. It will be the responsibility of the 4-H member to advise their leader immediately if they elect not to attend the 4-H County Championship Show.

4-H FIELD CROPS, HORTICULTURE & LIFE-SKILLS

All 4-H members in Ottawa Carleton taking a 4-H Field Crop or Horticulture project must exhibit their project entry at the Carp Fair. 4-H Field Crop & Horticulture members must enter only ONE project crop grown on a 2017 member plot in one of the following project classes:

(Additional entries must be entered in the Open Classes provided by the fair and abide by their rules).

NOTE: Members may exhibit only ONE type of project (i.e. potatoes) in the county per year.

  1. Grain. 5 lbs. (2.3 kg) Barley, Oats, Spring/Winter Wheat, Bean (any variety)
  2. Corn. 10 ears
  3. Hay. 1 four-inch flake of machine baled (not from a round bale) of cut hay. Entry must be properly labelled for the appropriate class.

 i. First Cut Alfalfa. 85% or more alfalfa
ii. First Cut Legume other than Alfalfa. 85% more legume
iii. First Cut Legume and Grass. 70% and 30% either way
iv. First Cut Grass. 85% or more grass
v. Second Cut Alfalfa or other Legume. 85% or more legume
vi. Second Cut Mixed legume and grass. 70% and 30% either way

    1. Haylage or Corn Silage. 5 lbs. (2.3 kg)
    2. Soybeans. 5 lbs. (2.3 kg)
    3. Potatoes. 10 tubers – variety named
    4. Any horticulture project or field crop approved by your 4-H leader(s). NOTE: There are certain requirements for display:
        •  Herbs – a labelled collection of more than 3 and not more than 10 specimens
        • Beans, Carrots, Tomatoes – 5 specimens on a disposable plate,
        • Cucumbers, 3 specimens on a disposable place
        • Pumpkins, 2 specimens (tied together) type to be identified.

      4. Must be the original calf nominated before June 1 and shown by the listed 4-H member at the Achievement Day.
      5. Must be shown by listed 4-H member in the Showmanship classes.
      6. Trophies will be presented to the Top Overall Showperson and First Year Showperson in each of the Dairy and Beef Shows.

4-H DAIRY and BEEF ACHIEVEMENT PROGRAM

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 22ND, 2017

Calves to be on the grounds and in place by 8:00 a.m.

Dairy Show -10:00 a.m. – Cattle Ring – Indoor Show Ring

Beef Show – 11:00 a.m. – Cattle Ring – Indoor Show Ring

      1. Calves to be on the grounds and in place by 8:00 a.m.
      2. For all Dairy Classes, 4-H members should wear clean white pants and shirts, safe footwear (no running shoes) and show harnesses. No hats will be allowed.
      3. For all Beef Classes, 4-H members must wear dark pants (no blue jeans), safe footwear (no running shoes) and a white shirt, and show harness or belt clip. No hats will be allowed.
      4. ALL 4-H livestock projects must be trained and prepared by the 4-H Member only.
      5. Under no circumstances should an animal exhibiting signs of transmittable disease be taken to an Achievement Day. In the event of an animal unable to participate in the Achievement Program, because of health problems, the member will be given credit for completion of the club provided that written notification of a health problem is given to Lynda McCuaig the day of the show and the 4-H member participates in the a showmanship class. The member will be allowed to show another 4-H member’s calf in the Showmanship Class only. Animals that were nominated by June 1 and are unable to show at Achievement Day will not be eligible to attend the 4-H County Championship Show at Metcalfe or at the Eastern Ontario/Western Quebec 4-H Regional Championship Show

4-H TIE-UP COMPETITION

      1. Open to all 4-H Clubs exhibiting livestock at Achievement Day (i.e. Dairy and Beef).
      2. Judging to take place several times while the 4-H livestock projects are at Achievement Day.
      3. Judging to be based on:
      1. Appearance (50) – General appearance of animals, including bedding, feed, equipment as deemed necessary, safety and cleanliness. (b)
      2. Attitude/Team Effort (50) – Attitude of members, courtesy, neatness, completeness of information.

iii. 4-H Leaders have received copies of the judging criteria.

      1. ALL 4-H members must tie their calves together as a club unit. No exceptions will be granted.

PRIZE MONEY: 1st $20.00 2nd $15.00 3rd $12.00 and $10.00 to remaining entries.

4-H MARKET HOG ACHIEVEMENT PROGRAM
